BARBARIAN never did hide the fact their biggest influence has always been and always will be CELTIC FROST. Hell, early material like their self-titled debut (and first cooperation with DOOMENTIA) back in 2011 was all about celebrating Tom G. Warrior genius one could say. But eager not to become just another addition to an already long list of ‘official clones’ the Italians soon spread their wings and soared musically. Yet they never truly forgot with the initial spark came from and now, entering their fifteenth year as an active band, it does make sense in a way to see them – even if for a brief moment – go full circle and back to where it all started.

In a way, this new EP is a tribute to both one of the most important metal band of the 80’s but also to their ourselves and their stubbornness, how back in the late 00’s having three misfits sporting spikes, bullet belts and striking warrior poses while screaming out a collective ‘ugh!’ was maybe the least cool thing one could have done. But instead of going down the easy road – come on, who needs a 78th cover version of ‘Into The Crypt Of Rays’? – they choose to pay homage to a least frequently visited alley of the FROST canon, their 1990 return-to-form album Vanity/Nemesis by picking up ‘A Kiss Or A Whisper’ and going as far as more or less reproducing the album iconic fragmented cover for this EP.

That cover was originally included on the TIME TO KILL RECORDS tribute CD album Mesmerized – A Tribute To Celtic Frost released last January along covers by other fellow Frostian acolytes such as DOOMRAISER, NECRODEATH or BÜNKER 66.

On the B-side, you’ll find a brand new version of ‘Rain Of Fire’ especially recorded for the occasion and whose original version is to be found on BARBARIAN self-titled debut, a very good representation of their core sound, where FROST, early speed metal and punk are all cracking the whip in unison.

The dead may rest but the grind goes on. San Francisco’s Cartilage return to serve up another frenzied feast with the new EP “Tales from the Entrails: A Necrology”, the biggest color palette on a Cartilage release to date. Now with even more shades of red!

Since their malformation in 2014, the San Franciscan sickos CARTILAGE have brewed a special concoction of gory Deathgrind so foul, it would leave Carcass and Impetigo screaming in horror.
After spending their formative years sharpening their axes, the crew entered Greg Wilkinson’s Earhammer Studios to spawn their debut full-length Dialect of the Dead (2017). Upon its release, members Mark Wallace, Teresa Flory, Michael Flory, and Adam Houmam spent the next few years spreading their grotesque gospel to terrified audiences across the greater U.S. and Europe.
2020 saw the addition of bassist Kienan Hamilton adding his pummeling low-end to the quintets next two blood offerings; the self released and recorded Gore-Met EP (2020) and the Matt Harvey (Exhumed) produced full-length The Deader the Better (2022) released via Creator-Destructor Records. With a wealth of shows throughout the East and West Coasts and a US tour with Gruesome under their leathers, the five-piece have tightened into a well-bloodied machine.
The dead may rest but the grind goes on. Cartilage are serving up another frenzied feast with a new EP, Tales from the Entrails: A Necrology via Everlasting Spew Records. The blastmasters took their studio operations to home base, enlisting Scott Evans (Kowloon Walled City, Ghoul, Thrice) for recording and mixing duties, while the genre’s perennial grindfather Leon del Muerte (Impaled, Exhumed, Nails) handled mastering. The Bay Area gore titans continue to spill their guts across the land but with new tools in their trade: twisting harmonies and cinematic set-pieces now compliment Cartilage’s arsenal of blistering blasts, ripcord riffs, and deranged shrieks fans know to expect.

For fans of Exhumed, Impaled, Carcass, Pharmacist

As we were about to announce the launch of this very special series of soon-to-be-highly-collectable split EP, we were thinking about boosting how the heavy metal genre has been going through some kind of fascinating and enthralling revival over the last years… Until we realized our mistake: heavy metal never went away. Ever. Yes, it might at some point going back underground where it started in the first place but call it ‘true metal’, ‘epic metal’, ‘new wave of traditional heavy metal’ or whatnot, the fact is that ever since the bell rang on a rain-soaked bleak landscapes at the very beginning of Black Sabbath very first album in 1970, heavy metal just kept on growing and growing.
So this series is less about resurgence than it is about resistance and a burning passion that simply refuses to let go. It’s also about supporting the bands who strive for heavy metal excellence and the whole scene they’ve built with their bare hands, quite often in pure DIY fashion. Each band will provide exclusive content, such as demo tracks, alternate mixes or covers and each entry will feature the same generic layout, giving this whole collectible series a sense of unity.
#2 The second part of the “Heavy Metal Thunder Sessions” collector’s series comes with two important bands that started a new wave of traditional heavy metal in the world: Sweden’s ENFORCER and Canada’s CAULDRON! Two exclusive covers of legendary 80s heavy metal bands for the first time on vinyl format!

    Tracklist:
ENFORCER – “Attack” (Jonah Quizz cover), CAULDRON – “Paris is Burning” (Dokken cover)
